Sept 16 and 17: Join us at SAMEA 2025 Online Capacity Building Workshops

The SAMEA 2025 Online Capacity Building Workshops are designed to strengthen the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) community by enhancing skills, fostering learning, and promoting collaboration.

The MERL Tech Initiative is partnering with Rebecca Mbaya to offer a 2 day workshop titled “Beyond the Hype – AI Promise, Pitfalls, and Practical Pathways in African-Driven MERL”, taking place 16-17 September 2025. The interactive workshop is designed for M&E practitioners seeking to understand and apply AI and digital technologies ethically and inclusively in African contexts.

Meet the trainers 

Rebecca Mbaya specializes in Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL), data-driven strategy, and digital transformation, helping organizations turn insights into action for measurable impact. With expertise in AI for social good, technology adoption, and international development, she bridges the gap between data, strategy, and innovation to drive sustainable solutions.

Varaidzo Matimba (she/her) is a pan-African feminist lawyer, decolonial funding advocate, and curator of the inaugural Afrofeminist Data Museum. She holds an Executive Postgraduate Diploma in Development Policies and Practices from the Geneva Graduate Institute. Her work focuses on human rights program design at the intersection of feminist tech policy, data governance, and digital inclusion in Africa. She has supported movement building, strategy, governance, compliance, and resource mobilization across West, Southern, and Eastern Africa. Vari is MTI’s AI in Africa lead.
