Register now: How can NLP support social and behavior change communication (SBCC) programming?

ChatGPT4/DALL-E Image: a webinar with 4 speakers. talking about how to use ChatGPT, LLMs and generative AI for improving the uptake of modern contraception among adolescent girls in Kenya and India.

On November 28, 10-11.30 ET, the Natural Language Processing Community of Practice (NLP-CoP) will host Girl Effect and Shujaaz for an exploration of how emerging NLP applications can support social and behavior change communication (SBCC) programming; in particular, shifts in knowledge, attitudes and behaviors relating to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) among young audiences. Both organizations are using NLP to refine their SRH programming, more efficiently engage their audiences, and support monitoring, evaluation, and research efforts.

  • Karina Michel and Soma Mitra-Behura (Girl Effect) will talk about how they are exploring the use of Generative AI in their SRH programming in South Africa, India and Kenya as a way to enhance their work with chatbots in Sheng and Hinglish languages. They will also share key insights from Girl Effect’s Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Vision for Family Planning Chatbots.
  • Anastasia Mirzoyants (Shujaaz), Claudia Marques de Abreu Lopes (UN University) and and Bryson Mwakuwona (iMedia Associates) will share how they have used ChatGPT to translate Facebook posts from Sheng to English and to run topic modeling and sentiment analysis to build a predictive/classification model for ongoing digital audience segmentation.
  • Each organization will discuss how to implement human centered and ethical approaches to NLP which are inclusive and representative and cognizant of privacy, bias – especially language and algorithmic transparency. They will also share some of the methods they used to validate and evaluate these emerging applications.

Following the presentations, Stephanie Coker (Co-Lead of the SBCC Working Group and NLP-CoP Steering Committee Member) and Louis Davison (co-lead of the SBCC WG) will lead a discussion on emergent trends around generative AI for social and behavior change communication and solicit ideas on new directions for the working group in 2024. This is a kick-off event for the NLP-CoP’s Social and Behavior Change Communications (SBCC) Working Group.
